Maurice Goodman
Board of Directors
Maurice Goodman comes to the Umoja Community Education Foundation with a wealth of knowledge and experience. Most recently, serving as Vice Mayor of the city of Millbrae and Acting President of the San Mateo NAACP. As a member of the A.S.T.E.P. (African American Success Through Excellence and Persistence) college learning community, Maurice brings a unique and valuable skillset and lived experience to the Board.
Working as an educator, he served as a non-profit executive director supporting, empowering and uplifting adolescents and college-age students. Maurice was elected to two terms of office on the San Mateo County Community College Board and the South San Francisco Unified School District Board of Trustees serving as President twice. Maurice is a passionate advocate for all students, with an unapologetic focus on the un-housed, historically underserved, and BIPOC communities.
Maurice is a father, husband and had worked as a legal paraprofessional for nearly a decade prior to turning to a career in educational leadership and youth development in 2010. After completing degrees in Administration of Justice and Paralegal Studies at Skyline College, Vice Goodman Mayor went on to California State University, East Bay and received a bachelor’s degree in criminal justice.
